The True Reality of "Do Not Duplicate Keys!"

The True Reality of "Do Not Duplicate Keys!"
Can your keys be duplicated? Regardless if it says “Duplication Prohibited” or “Do Not Duplicate?”
Yes - in almost all cases, keys can technically be duplicated, even if they say “Do Not Duplicate” or “Duplication Prohibited.” Those markings are mostly advisory or legal warnings, not a physical barrier.
The only exception is restricted or patented key systems (like our MX13 system).
For those:
Keys cannot legally be duplicated without authorization from the system owner, which would be you.
Attempting duplication outside authorized channels can be illegal and won’t work at a reputable locksmith, as they do not have access to key blanks to duplicate our MX13 Restricted Keys.
So, a “Do Not Duplicate” stamp on a regular key doesn’t stop duplication; a restricted key system actually enforces it, like our MX13 Restricted Key System.
